Reading Readiness: Strong Foundations for Early Readers

Our Reading Readiness sessions are perfect for children ages 4-7, or older children who are learning letter sounds, and are not reading yet. Our sessions are guided by Andrea, our Licensed Dyslexia Therapist and Certified Academic Language Therapist.

We offer a comprehensive and multisensory approach to developing foundational reading skills.Tailored to each child’s unique needs, these sessions focus on key areas essential for reading success

Skills in Reading Readiness

  • Instant Letter Recognition & Naming: Ensuring quick and accurate identification of letters.

  • Sequencing the Alphabet: Mastering letter order for foundational literacy.

  • Vowels vs Consonants: Understanding the difference between vowels and consonants, as well as open vs blocked, voiced vs unvoiced sounds.

  • Before/After & Same/Different: Developing the ability to recognize order and make comparisons.

Phonological Awareness

  • Word Counting: Breaking down sentences into individual words.

  • Alliteration: Identifying and extending beginning sounds in words.

  • Rhyming: Recognizing, generating, and counting rhyming words.

  • Sound Sequencing & Segmentation: Differentiating, blending, and segmenting sounds to strengthen decoding skills.

Multisensory Letter Introduction (Lowercase Letters)

  • Rapid Naming: Improving fluency in recalling letter sounds.

  • Sensory Engagement: Teaching how sounds feel in the mouth/throat for better pronunciation and recall.

  • Letter Formation: Introducing letters with proper manuscript handwriting techniques.

  • CVC Spelling & Reading: Mastering consonant-vowel-consonant words, with a gradual introduction to consonant blends, as appropriate for the child’s progress.
